ISA, The International Society of Automation, is an organization of approximately 38,000 members in 100 countries, including engineers, technicians, and other professionals and practitioners within the field of instrumentation, systems and automation. There are 190 ISA Sections that serve local members. There are 21 Technical Divisions in ISA. The Society was organized in 1945, as the Instrument Society of America in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Society grew out of the desire of 18 local instrument societies to form a national organization. Its objectives as stated in the Bylaws, "....to advance and to reinforce the arts and sciences related to the theory, design, manufacture and use of instrumentation, computers and systems for measurement and control in the various sciences and technologies for the benefit of mankind."
